Papers, ca. 1853-1888.

This collection of correspondence, lectures, notebooks, copies of documents, etc., includes both family and professional material. It centers on Rockwell's study of mining engineering in England and Germany, 1857-1859. Of particular note are the eight notebooks (some contain sketches), including seven volumes from his European period. There are also lecture notes from metallurgical classes of Dr. John Percy in London; volumes on different collieries in Yorkshire and Glasgow, Scotland; notes from courses at Freiberg; and notes on an industrial tour through Germany and Belgium (June 1859). One separate volume is a record book of the Great Falls Mfg. Company (New Hampshire), 1879-1886, which includes detailed production figures.
